Before we get into the nitty-gritty of things, let’s take a look at what mobile recruitment is and how it applies to Generation Z. Then, we will look into the difference between recruiting millennials and Gen Z. Lastly, we will end on the topic of the future of Gen Z hiring and why mobile recruitment continues to thrive.

Mobile recruitment is a type of method used to connect jobs and the ideal candidate via mobile devices. Mobile recruitment comes in two different forms. For example, there is a recruitment activity that targets mobile devices with engineered functions, and there is web-based recruitment activity that is “ported” across mobile devices.

Generally, mobile recruitment follows recruitment activity faster than web-based job boards that can quickly become overwhelming. Within those job boards, you can easily get lost in the many applicants. With mobile recruitment activity, there is a bigger chance for recruiters to reach prospective candidates directly via push notifications to their mobile devices. In this way, quick updates are readily available to you without any stress of searching for applicant updates.

Now that you know a bit more about the background of mobile recruitment let’s look into the difference between recruiting millennials and Generation Z.

Both generations grew with the digital age, but there are key differences when it comes to recruiting hires.

Gen Z wants recruiters to meet them where they are, and they hold communication as the highest importance. Using the right communication channels with this generation could decide between an acceptable connection or not. Gen Z may stick to email as their consistent method of communication for job offers, but they want recruiters to reach out to them on more than one channel. Although they prefer face-to-face interviews, the pandemic has made it a bit difficult.

Millennials often thrive more through social media and behind the computer screen rather than face-to-face contact.

One of the most important aspects to understand about Gen-Z is the need for convenience and lack of patience. This generation is seated within the digital age, and they are used to having products/services readily accessible. These days, grocery shopping can be done with a few easy clicks in an app and be delivered to your doorstep within two hours. So, of course, that sort of convenience is tied to recruitment by employers.

Another reason why mobile recruitment is the future for Gen-Z is the accessible collaboration tools and video interview bandwidth. Because of the pandemic, social distancing has become an everyday thing. So, companies cannot always meet in person to conduct interviews with the ability to hold asynchronous video interviews and live video interviews with group discussions.

Because of the pandemic, asynchronous options have been more available. This means that candidates can text questions into the video meetings without showing their video consistently. This way of conducting potential interviews saves plenty of time on the recruiter’s behalf.

Overall, the digital age has sped up due to the severity of Covid-19. Although it did cause devastations to the job market, it has made communication channels more advanced and accessible for Generation Z.
